Anyone who follows the sport of Tennis, knows very well who sisters Venus & Serena Williams are. Both being professional tennis players formerly in the #1 ranking. Besides being on top of their game in tennis, both of the Williams sisters have redefined the idea of sports wear and have found a way to mix fashion with athletics.
Last year, Venus definitely had heads turning on the court when she turned up wearing her own racy lingerie inspired tennis dress that what a spaghetti strapped, corset bodice, laced trim flouncy concoction. I'm not too sure this would be considered a favorable sporty fashion fave amongst her racket swinging peers! I'm not quite sure that 'sexy' is the word I'd use to describe this designer mishap?!
Sister Serena Williams obviously opts for the gladiator/Xena warrior queen look as she was seen wearing this custom made black get up complete with knee boots? That just looks 'HOT' to me and not in a good way, but literally!
I respect their desire to try to incorporate high fashion into their daily sports attire but in this instance, I think the traditional 'white' on the court is most eye appealing and uniformly appropriate.
Or even this school girl'ish inspired pink mini skirt number seen worn by Serena at the U.S. Open in 2007...
Venus Williams recently stated she's going to be 'trending towards simplicity' with her fashion choices on the court...and that comment from her was before she decided to wear this!... If they could both just do away with the missing undergarments look to their outfits, they might be a bit more palatable...
Or maybe not!....What is your opinion?

MOD Monday
Go-go boots first became popular in the 60's given the name that was derived from the 1962 slang term "go", meaning something that was "all the rage" and that was followed by the term "go-go dancer" in 1965. Back then, a go go dancer wasn't necessarily a stripper as many well established night clubs featured mod mama's in retro frocks and go-go boots dancing in cages. Initially boots were only thought to be worn during bad weather to protect us from the elements and not as street wear, but just like everything...fashions evolved...
The go-go type boots generally sits at the knee or above the knee with a lower flat chunky heel. They were famous for drawing attention to the legs when paired with right mini skirt/dress. You know you've found a 'vintage' go-go boot if it's made of plastic or vinyl and it's colorful, because the 'mod' go-go boots of the 60's came in array of colors!
Nancy Sinatra and Jane Fonda, both made go-go boots popular in song and film, as Nancy sang about them in her popular one hit wonder hit "These Boots Are Made For Walkin'" and Jane showed us her sexy side in some space age go-go boots in the cult science fiction movie Barbarella.
Check out these sexy lace up boots worn by stewardess's in the 60's and for real with the hot pants?!
Retro Threadz 'LOVES' us some go-go boots & there have been many unique style and color variations that have came and went, but we are always on the hunt for that special find! Currently, we have a few left in the shop...

Vintage Beach Beauty Rewind
Back in the 1950's you would not be seeing a thong bikini clad vixen on the beach and if you did she was more than likely going to be arrested for indecent exposure. You would however see women wearing what was more of a 'bathing dress' than a 'bathing suit' & they would accessorize it appropriately with a stylish cover up, full face make up and perfectly coiffed hair. Guess they didn't do much swimming?!
Of course, less was consider more in those days in regards to 'baring skin' & surprisingly we are in the midst of a vintage beach beauty rewind as we are seeing a resurgence of that modest 50's style for Summer 2011. Designer Michael Kors suits are making big waves especially when accessorized with chic shades and wide brimmed hats.
I particularly love designer Betsey Johnson's fun & flirty take on this retro swimwear style that makes you think 'pin up' girl sexy!
It's no mystery that we live in a society that leaves 'little to the imagination' in regards to pretty much anything these days so what's wrong with backing it up a little bit and attempting to revive the jive of the simpler days?

That 70's Style
Spring fashions this year are rolling in with a 'blast from the past' ladies so if you're old enough to have been able to store away your vintage clothes..."go get em" and if not, you can always hit up your mama or your auntie's closets!
To achieve the liberated yet ladylike look of the 70's you need to focus on interesting fabrics and patterns and throw away the idea that stripes and florals are 'old fashioned'. The 70's was a comfortable yet fashionable time, so you can cut yourself loose from anything tight fitting because that was so yesterday. Make sure you put them away somewhere for safe keeping because you just never know...it might be back in style next year ha!
Designer Marc Jacobs pushed the return of the 70's style at Fashion Week 2011 as he saturated his designs with lines & pattern/color schemes so much so that he put us in a time warp!
If you're looking for a muse to copy fashion styles of the 70's from, check out Bianca Jagger & Farrah Fawcett as these two women were on the top of their game as icons of an era gone by...

A-line skirts, wide leg pants, billowy ankle length dresses and wedge heeled shoes are taking 'front and center' as 'That 70's Style' is back in a big way!

Rated PG Sexy
What's sexy? Is it true that 'less is more'? Nowadays it seems quite the opposite as we are seeming to conform to the European standards of modesty on all media fronts and even more so in today's fashions. Case in point, naked models walked the runway at London Fashion Week for Charlie Le Mindu! Way to shop your hats!
The 1940's & 50's was supposed to be the eras of the pristine 'good girl' but they managed to sneak a little naughty in there for sure! My mother said she remembers back in the day her mother wearing a black sheer button down blouse with just a black bra underneath. How did they get away with that back then?! Maybe grandma was just a rebel? Check out this sheer lace number Rita Hayworth wore in the 1942 musical comedy 'You Were Never Lovlier'. This now vintage scandalous dress was definitely ahead of it's time!
My mom's story of my grandmother's risque fashion choice led me to do a little scoping out on sheers as a current day trend. I've been reading a lot about the New York Fashion Week still as articles are still trickling in and continue to pop up in the style section of the news as well as in the fash mags. I came across Proenza Schouler. Never heard of them, but they are fairly new being that they've only been around since 2002. Proenza Schouler is a New York based modern design label that focuses their inspirations primarily on women's wear & accessories.
I Google'd them and went looking to see what I could find and their spring 2011 collection at the New York Fashion week was 'sheer heaven'! I really dig how they couple the aspect of maintaining modesty with the sheer and sexy vibe of the delicate fabrics leaving much to the imagination by accompanying the styles with appropriate under garments such as boy shorts and camis.
Sheer is definitely 'in' for Spring/Summer 2011 so make sure you keep it classy and not trashy and wear it rated PG Sexy!
