Cheeky Jewelry - Wilfredo Rosado

After being in the business of jewelry making for over twenty five years, twenty of which were spent working with the Giorgio Armani brand, designer Wilfredo Rosado launched his own line of baubles just a week before the Grammy's and his pieces became an instant hit with 'A-listers'.  Rosado is said to be for the world of jewelry, what Andy Warhol was to the world of art, creating designs that make you think outside of the box.  Definite conversation pieces.  His recent vintage inspired cheeky ... 'for cool girls' rings and cameo pendants are being showcased for sale at Bergdorf Goodman. 

Hand carved from his workshop in Torre del Greco, Italy, his Cameo collection gives the old signature standard, a fresh & racy new vibe as these pieces definitely have got tongues wagging & his personal mission falling in sync with his work as he was stated as saying... "With everything I do, I wanted there to be some sexual tension"

MOD Monday - Barbara Feldon

Everyone except for the new generation, more than likely remembers the comedy sitcom of the 60's 'Get Smart' starring Barbara Feldon as Agent 99, the sidekick to government intelligence agent Maxwell Smart.   

Not everyone knows however, that prior to landing her gig on the show, Feldon had a successful career appearing in commercials and even did a brief stint with modeling.  She appeared in Vogue and of course on several covers of the then popular TV Guide magazine.   

Because of the cult status of the now in syndication television series, Feldon is more well known for having been a pop culture icon of the 60's than she was for her various other credentials.  The eccentric artist of that era, Andy Warhol, immortalized her on canvas when he did a pop art quad portrait of her as well as a few other silk screens in 1965. Back then, if Warhol wanted to paint you, you were definitely in with the 'in crowd'.

MOD Monday

Enough of the Royal hoopla... it's time to get back on track here at Retro Threadz as we bring you Mod Monday once again!  Today we're going to talk about fashion icon of the 60's, Edie Sedgwick...

   
Edie was an American born actress, model, socialite and heiress who is mostly remembered for being Andy Warhol's 'muse' & was even considered a 'superstar' after appearing in several of his short art house films.   Edie's life was the epitome of the 'poor little rich girl' who had it all but had nothing really being that she came from an extremely troubled home.  All of this was said to have led to her battle with anorexia and substance abuse.

She met Warhol, the avante garde filmmaker/artist in March of 1965 and he immediately took a liking to her and set out to make her a star however, none of Warhol's films were commercially successful.

Edie may have failed on the big screen but she left her mark as a true fashion icon for her era as she was the epitome of the swinging 60's scene and a true founder of the beatnik style.  She was young and definitely hip and no one had ever seen anything quite like her daring to wear nothing but a leotard, with opaque tights & a sweater!  This fashion trend took off like wild fire!

It was reported in 1971 that Edie stopped abusing drugs and alcohol for a short time however, on November 15th, 1971 at the ripe old age of 28, she was said to have died from what was noted as 'undetermined/accident/suicide'.  She was definitely the life of every party and lived hers in the fast lane...


She became a vintage legend style icon and even today, women try to emulate her fashion statement with a more contemporary flair.
