Fashion In Film Friday - 'The Notebook'

What an absolute sappy gusher the 2004 romantic drama, 'The Notebook' by Nicholas Sparks was, starring Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams about a young couple falling in love during the early 40's...
I am certainly not a 'chick flick' kind of gal, but I adored this film solely for the costumes that were on the mark authentic representations, of the feminine & fabulous 1940's. 'Allie', played by McAdams is the proper and polished rich girl & the wardrobe selected for her character in the movie was sheer perfection in replicating the swimwear, business wear and casual wear of that era...
The style of the 40's is easy to pull off for your own self, if that's the time period of fashion styles that tickles your fancy.  Anything floral and flouncy, with muted hues will suffice.
Random fact: People have been so enamored with the romanticism of this film that they have even went as far as to have their engagement photos mimicking scenes from the movie, as pictured below...

Flatform Platform Shoes...A New Twist to a Comfortable Stylish Classic

Have you seen the new platform shoe style that's out this year called the 'Flatform Platform?  Every well known designer is all about making their mark with this new twist on a vintage classic...

A lot of people think that the platform sandal style originated from the free spirited hippie days of the 70's, but the real deal is, these comfy high steppers have actually been around since the 1940's.

There have been many variations of this shoe style since the beginning of the design and today the wedge heel, platform and the new 'flatform platform' offers both comfort, balance and height as a diversion from it's uncomfortable counterpart, the stiletto...

This year we now have the new revamped flatform platform style that offers a much welcome refuge from the sexed up spindly stilettos and high arched wedgies that are being put on the back burner as designers from Derek Lam to Chanel are bringing back the airy cork, rich wood and woven hemp rope 70's styles with a new appeal of added comfort as these shoes are true to their name 'flatform' which puts zero strain on your little piggies!

Now we can be kind to our feet and remain trendy all at the same time...But most importantly, we can still add the inches, minus the winces!

Rated PG Sexy

What's sexy?  Is it true that 'less is more'?  Nowadays it seems quite the opposite as we are seeming to conform to the European standards of modesty on all media fronts and even more so in today's fashions. Case in point, naked models walked the runway at London Fashion Week for Charlie Le Mindu! Way to shop your hats!

The 1940's & 50's was supposed to be the eras of the pristine 'good girl' but they managed to sneak a little naughty in there for sure!  My mother said she remembers back in the day her mother wearing a black sheer button down blouse with just a black bra underneath.  How did they get away with that back then?!  Maybe grandma was just a rebel? Check out this sheer lace number Rita Hayworth wore in the 1942 musical comedy 'You Were Never Lovlier'.  This now vintage scandalous dress was definitely ahead of it's time!

My mom's story of my grandmother's risque fashion choice led me to do a little scoping out on sheers as a current day trend.  I've been reading a lot about the New York Fashion Week still as articles are still trickling in and continue to pop up in the style section of the news as well as in the fash mags.  I came across Proenza Schouler.  Never heard of them, but they are fairly new being that they've only been around since 2002.  Proenza Schouler is a New York based modern design label that focuses their inspirations primarily on women's wear & accessories.

I Google'd them and went looking to see what I could find and their spring 2011 collection at the New York Fashion week was 'sheer heaven'!  I really dig how they couple the aspect of maintaining modesty with the sheer and sexy vibe of the delicate fabrics leaving much to the imagination by accompanying the styles with appropriate under garments such as boy shorts and camis.

Sheer is definitely 'in' for Spring/Summer 2011 so make sure you keep it classy and not trashy and wear it rated PG Sexy!
