The Bad Girls Of Vintage Hollywood

We've got Lindsay Lohan, Brittney Spears, Drew Barrymore and a dozen other brazen ladies making headlines these days with their over the top..."Look at me, I have no boundaries" antics, but do you ever wonder who the naughty girls of days gone by were?  There wasn't a media frenzy or 24/7 paparazzi action going on like there is today and Hollywood stars weren't living their lives in a fish bowl like they do now either.  I was curious, so I did a little research and here's what I've found...

*Marilyn Monroe was invited to a dinner party in 1962, in honor of the President and it was hosted by fellow actor Peter Lawford & his wife Pat who just so happened to be John F. Kennedy's sister.  Marilyn ended up meeting JFK that night and they immediately had chemistry.  It was speculated that the affair didn't last beyond two discreet trysts and that Monroe became obsessive over the pres after he gave her the boot and became distraught and unable to cope with the rejection, that in turn she resorted to abusing pills & alcohol.  Regardless of her fame & fortune, nothing could heal her broken heart and ultimately she overdosed, 'alledgely' of course because in all reality only GOD & Marilyn knows whether or not foul play was a factor in her untimely death...
*Lana Turner was discovered at the tender age of 16 and immediate developed her 'Lolita'ish' appeal catching the eye of many movie producers.  Amply endowed for her age, she worked her assets and was immediately tagged as the 'sweater girl', mostly known for wearing sweaters that looked like they shrunk in the dryer!  Given todays standards, isn't it laughable to think that this was considered totally trashy for the late 1930's?
*Judy Garland, mother of Liza Minelli was a child star and I'm sure you all remember her as Dorothy in the original Wizard of Oz. Garland was in high demand and the hardest working kid in Hollywood and it's been said that her studio MGM, was responsible for her turning her into a drug addict due to her being given sleeping pills & barbiturates to keep her energy level up and her weight down.  That set her on a tail spin of no return throughout her career life.  Ironically, her daughter followed in her footsteps...

*Elizabeth Taylor was considered an avid home wrecker with no regard as she was solely responsible for breaking up the marriages of Debbie Reynold & Eddie Fisher and then after she had only been married to fisher for two years, in 1959 she met Richard Burton on the set of Cleopatra and after a long and adulterous courtship, he ended his marriage to marry Taylor in 1964.

*And of course we have Katharine Hepburn & Joan Crawford who were rumored to have slept their way to the top & whether or not it's true is any ones guess but one thing for sure is there is never going to be a shortage of naughty girls in Hollywood because it's obvious for some, that fame inspires reckless abandon!

Elizabeth's Jewels

The late Hollywood icon Elizabeth Taylor was known for more than her acting capabilities.  She had many love interests and aside from the husbands she entertained throughout her life, her number one passion was her jewelry. It has been said that Liz acquired the majority of the gems from the men in her life.  She had an amazing diverse collection of rubies, sapphires, diamonds and emeralds.  A variety of the most precious stones.  Now up for auction, her pieces total out at an estimated $30,000,000.00!
The jewelry worn by Taylor was just a little sneak peak into her extravagant lifestyle that entailed money as being an expendable commodity.  Over 269 diamonds, pearls, rings, necklaces and even a Van Cleef & Arpels diamond crown tiara are up for grabs to the highest bidder.  These vintage treasures come from all over the world...  The most acclaimed item she had was the diamond and ruby Cartier necklace and earring set given to her by husband Richard Burton.

Her entire collection is going to be exhibited at Christie's New York Galleries from December 3rd through December 10th 2011 and a portion of the proceeds from admission to the exhibit and sales will be going to the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation.

Jungle Love Summer

This Summer, everyone will be seeing spots as lead designers such as Dolce & Gabbana, Norma Kamali, Calvin Klein and Kenneth Cole are making a splash with their animal print inspired swim suits.

Animal prints have the ability to add a twist of 'wild' to even the most conservative cut swimwear and is a welcomed break from the conventional beachy bright color patterns we've become so accustomed to.

Norma Kamali's collection is off the hook!...

You may find it to your surprise to know that this pattern is quite vintage and has been worn by many lovelies of the past...

Elizabeth Taylor...The Passing Of A Hollywood Icon

Dame Elizabeth Rosemond Taylor...known to the world as Liz Taylor, passed away this morning at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles California.
In spite of her wealth, fame and star status, she had a lifetime of ill health, failed romances and personal tragedies through which she always remained consistent in maintaining an air of grace and dignity...

Not only was she a two time Academy Award Winner, she was also a devout humanitarian and dedicated AIDS fundraiser who helped start The American Foundation For AIDS Research.

Her 1st major screen role was in the 1950 film 'A Place In The Sun' opposite Montgomery Clift but it wasn't until thirteen years later that her rise to fame began to take off, as her role in the 1963 movie Cleopatra opposite soon to be husband Richard Burton sealed her spot in the ranks of Hollywood movie starlet status.

As a Fashion Icon, Elizabeth Taylor had the ability to turn simple into sexy with her ability to make mundane clothing seem magnificent with accessories. She quoted "Enough is never enough" in describing her personal style.  She was such a force to be reckoned with, so much so that she made the simple white slip she wore in the 1960's film 'Butterfied 8' seem like a haute couture dress!

In 1989 she said..."I think I'm becoming fantalistic...too much has happened in my life for me not to be fantalistic."   And that she was...completely and utterly fantalistic as she leaves us with her legacy of strength & beauty.

Elizabeth Taylor...Timeless Beauty

The beautiful Elizabeth Taylor just recently turned 79 this past February and has been in the news over the past several weeks for being hospitalized for congestive heart failure at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. She remains stable and there are no new developments in her condition.

Award winning two time Oscar recipient Taylor defined herself as one of the most influential style icons of the 20th century with her stunning face, violet-blue eyes and the trademark beauty mark on her chin.  She was never afraid of playing up her bold eyebrows and that became a trend among women everywhere.

She has influenced film fashion for over five decades and became famous not only for her acting talents but for her style choices in clothes and jewelry.  Since she was a teen she has been intriguing us with her sass and sex appeal.

Elizabeth Taylor will always remain a timeless beauty...
