Have you heard about the new feather weave trend that's happening right now? It's been going on since early Summer and hasn't let up yet! Both women and girls alike are opting for adding feathers to their coif be it professionally done at their local salons, or by doing it themselves at home.
Back in the 70's feathers were BIG! You'd see them as jewelry & clothing accents as well as hair accessories. This vintage style has been around and used in hair doos for years however weaving, which is actually the process of integrating the artificial piece into the hair (i.e. feathers or both fake & human hair), is pretty much a new twist on an old idea. In regards to choosing the right plumes, it seems as though the younger crowd goes for more colorful option whereas the more mature ladies vibe the neutrals.
There is a less invasive way to wear the feathers that only involves clipping them into your hair. It's pretty easy as opposed to the more semi permanent weaving method and you can take them in and out and change them up according to your daily wardrobe. Feather weaves are quite different in comparison to hair weaves because of the fragility of the feather they have to be placed more delicately. Hair weaves are sewn into the hair on the scalp whereas feathers are kept in place with tight crimp beads at the base of the scalp.
Both past and present, celebrities have been on board with the hype of wearing feathers in their hair as seen here with the legend Janis Joplin and Aerosmith's front man Steven Tyler...
If we really want to go back to the origin of ornamental feathers, I mean waaaay back, we have to give a shout out to Sitting Bull born in 1831 who was chief of his Lakota Indian tribe during a time of resistance to U.S. governmental policies. Indians wore feathers in their hair as a symbol of trust, honor, strength, wisdom, power, freedom and so much more and to be given the feather of the mighty bald eagle was the biggest form of flattery...
"Wouldn't it be awesome if we could incorporate into our own lives, the true meaning behind the symbolism of wearing feathers?"...

Beyonce Rocks It Audrey Hepburn Style In Her Latest Video
Seems these days, celebrities abound are into the vintage Audrey Hepburn style when it comes to creating a buzz. For instance, last week I blogged about how Anna Faris and Lady Gaga were seen out on the town last weekend, both wearing the same Hepburn inspired little black dress and now this week, we've seen a little sneak peek of pop singer Beyonce's new single titled "Countdown".
In one segment, the music video features her duping the vintage style of Hepburn to a tee. She's a complete doppelganger replicating the dance moves, the classic black turtleneck & slacks and even the up-do that she sported in the 1954 film classic, "Funny Face" that Audrey co-starred in, along side Fred Astaire.
This particular style and dance was even incorporated into a GAP commercial promoting skinny black pants back in 2007, with music by the rock band ACDC's 'Back In Black' as the backdrop. This advertising stint was brilliant!

Fashion Recycling In Hollywood?
There's a new trend circulating around Hollywood as many stars have been 'recycling' their wardrobe but maybe not in the sense you would assume upon hearing the word 'recycle'. It's no secret that some celebs live so extravagantly that the mere thought of wearing the same garment twice would bring them to tears (Paris Hilton) however, there are those who are not above the grain and are opting for a more green approach to staying trendy. Jennifer Aniston for example has no problem with being seen in public wearing the same black vest and slacks.
In the 'real world' wearing the same thing twice is no big whoop but obviously for the rich and famous it's actually looked down on by their peers. For instance, Ozzy's brat Kelly Osbourne who for whatever reason made it on the Fashion Police panel, slammed British royalty Kate Middleton for wearing the same dress on more than one occasion.
I'm thinking that was a bit snobbish and hasty considering Osbourne who is now considered to be a reformed hot mess, has been at the mercy of the tabloids herself in the past and was even recently pointed out as being one of the worst dressed! Here is the 'same' look worn by Kelly almost decades apart, neither one is screaming "I'M EXTREMELY FASHION SAVVY!"...eh?
Michelle Obama has been spotted buying clothes off the rack, Lindsay Lohan has been cited for sharing her closet with her sister Ali & even Brittney Spears is on board with the idea as she was seen wearing the same shorts and tee shirt twice in one week and her attempt to change it up a bit with a straw fedora didn't mix it up much!
I've never understood the hype associated with wearing the same thing twice, but of course my fashion choices are not out there under the scrutiny of the public eye so with that being said, "maybe it's a true 'sign of the times' that to some extent, the current recession is even hitting to the level that it's effecting the lifestyles of the rich and famous?" To sum up my response, "BOO and HOO"...
With all of the more pressing issues at hand going on in the world these days, who's wearing what and how many times over should be the least of our concerns!

Spotlight Saturday - Is Snooki Getting Into Fashion Biz?
In the Saturday Spotlight today is 'SNOOKI' & if you don't know who she is by now, then you must not read the tabloids or watch television & basically live under a rock or alone on a deserted island! MTV's reality show Jersey Shore, has accumulated high ratings since it first aired in the Summer of 2009. The cast was picked to represent the current lifestyle trends of what is referred to as 'guidos' & 'guidettes', which is basically a cutesy name for the club scene Italian Americans living in Jersey, Rhode Island & New York cities. Nicole Polizzi nicknamed 'Snooki', for some reason that has no meaning behind it really, has gained huge celebrity status solely as a result of her outrageous behavior & drunken antics. Having once had aspirations of going into veterinary medicine, since appearing on J.S., she's pushed that aside and has been making claim to having a new direction pointing towards becoming a designer. She wants to do it all, fashion, hair, sunglasses, etc...etc... Of course her first goal will be to nab that perfect juice head guido. (If you want the deff look it up on urban dictionary a ha!). Anyhow, back on the subject at hand, I can only imagine how much the retail biz is going to boom once she releases her line of what?... matted bunny slippers & faux poof weaves?

Spotlight Saturday - Paula Abdul
Paula Abdul is in the spotlight today rocking the late 40's and looking better than ever. She was seen at the first round of Fox's, The X Factor where she'll be co-judging with Simon Cowell this Fall. She looked totally fab in a draped purple Yves St. Laurent asymmetrical hemmed mini dress and matching YSL sandals. Abdul has definitely restructured her reputation and recovered from the bad rap she's had during the course of the past decade for her alleged drug addiction. Back in 2007 she made a poor decision by agreeing to do a reality show on Bravo which portrayed her as a needy berating diva who relied on everyone for everything. I don't think I'll ever understand why celebrities with so much star power feel the need to live their lives in a fish bowl?

Brigitte Bardot...Sex Kitten Of The 50's & 60's
There were many female celebrities who sparked the 'women's movement' with their overt sense of sexuality and that was way before pop icon Madonna did back in the 50's & 60's & Brigitte Bardot, was most definitely one of them! Born in Paris, France, Brigitte was a voluptuous beauty who's body image had a major impact on fashion.
A neckline style was even named after her...the 'Bardot' which is a wide open neck exposing both shoulders and a whole lot more!
Her early desire was to be a dancer but soon found fame in acting, becoming known world wide after starring in the sexy thriller 'And God Created Woman'. The film pushed censorship boundaries but as usual..sex always sells however, I have to laugh at the idea of 'a torrid tropical dance' being considered as risque considering what we see on the screen nowadays, let alone at home on our own televisions!
Besides the neckline style, Bardot is said to have been solely responsible for the rise in the popularity of the bikini, as well as the vintage beehive hairstyle. She was called 'bikini girl' because pretty much all of the movies she starred in from the beginning had her portraying naughty sex kittens who pranced around in hardly anything! As her career progressed she flashed some B&B (boobs & bunns) quite often and even agreed to do a rape scene.
In her elder years, Brigitte has been in the tabloids on both a positive and negative note. Positive because she's an animal activist and negative because unfortunately this once beautiful woman is a profound racist who was convicted on June 10th 2004 for 'inciting racial hatred'. A true example of how sometimes 'beauty is only skin deep'...
